Another throwback (#2016memories) this Youth Day Wednesday. 

These were the very first pieces I made with clay. Monkey Balls are made by rolling the clay in a ball and then pinching it in circular movements until you have two half  ‘eggs’. These are then joined, shaved, smoothed and worked until a beautiful hollow ball has formed. 

Thanks for introducing me to clay Chantal Berisse Martin! I decorated mine using a carving and sgraffitto (Italian for scratch) technique. The ball in the clip represents all my favorite things: my family and heritage (bunny with a broek ), my son, my husband, traveling, my home, cake , my furbabies, books, and the angel represents the loved ones I’ve lost.

I think it’s time to make some more, maybe to commemorate a milestone birthday.
